About us
We have asserted ourselves as one of the biggest, best and well-functioning clubs in Denmark, and we plan to continue this trend by always developing, and looking for new challenges.
Youth:
we participate in the 6 Danish championship competitions there are every season, and have already won a number of gold, silver and bronze medals for the club. In addition to this we take part in the regional RAN training and competitions, and the youth department has a yearly rugby tour abroad.
Senior: At this time ARK has 2 well-functioning senior teams, 1 team in the Danish superleague, and 1 team in the 1st division west. In 2006 we became deserved Danish champions in the Superleague and also the first official Danish champions in 7’s rugby. The senior department, of course, also take part in the regional RAN training and Games.
At national level ARK are very well represented with players playing for the under-17/18, 7’s and senior national team.
Senior:
Mikael Lai Rasmussen has been voted Player of the year three times, a title he shares with another ARK member Chris Adby, who won the title twice. Mikkel Jakobsen was voted Talent of the year in 2004 and Christian S. Jensen received the same title in 2006. DRU’s Leader of the year in 2005 was also a member of ARK, coach: Preben Rasmussen, who is also coach for the Danish Under-18 National team.
The history of ARK…
1973-2000
In the autumn of 1973 Jens Toyberg took the initial small steps towards forming the city’s first rugby club. On the 14th February 1974 the founding general meeting was held and Aarhus Rugby Club officially saw the light of day. A number of years passed, and in 1978 there was finally a basic foundation to enter a team into the Danish national leagues.
In the season of 1990-1991 we secured promotion to the 1st division and following 2 years of tough competition we managed to gain promotion to the top flight by the skin of our teeth.
1994 was a golden year for our club. We celebrated our 20th birthday by inaugurating our long awaited clubhouse, a 20m2 little shed, that we could call our own and celebrate our success. This was namely the first year we secured the Danish Superleague Championship.
2000-2007
The board made the preliminary (and rather tiring) preparation and application for a brand new, larger clubhouse and changing rooms of our own. All the effort paid off, and with a new clubhouse and our own changing rooms the clubs surroundings were almost perfect. It was at this point that Preben Rasmussen, Brian Reiffenstein, Ken Otto Nielsen og Gerard Tetevide thought that it was the right time to start up a youth department, and it quickly became very successful. The youth department was formed in 2000 with roughly 12 players; in 2007 we had around 60 youth players between 9 and 17 years old.
